In Canyon Song, I invite you to imagine you are stumbling through a canyon at night. You intended to have a contemplative afternoon hike, but you lost track of time, and now you are struggling to maintain your composure as you feel increasingly more vulnerable in the darkness. Every noise you make feels dangerous. You imagine your footsteps reverberating off the stone walls, always louder and louder, filling the canyon with sound. But, just as you begin to panic, the moon emerges from behind a cloud.
Your path is now illuminated. Your perspective shifts away from safety, and you are able to perceive the beauty of your surroundings.
Canyon Song is inspired by several memories from my hikes through Rio Grande Gorge during my residency in Taos, New Mexico.
