Kettle (2019)

for Pierrot Quintet

Duration: 6 min

Instrumentation

Piccolo, Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Piano

Program Note

Kettle is a rowdy, hectic piece built on simple motives. Awkward, stumbling rhythms are baked into the gestural language from the outset. The title came to me as I imagined the instrumentalists cartoonishly performing in a giant kettle โ€“ while they appear to be dancing, they are merely trying to keep their feet in the air, away from the searing metal.
